RESIDENTS were not surprised when emergency services swarmed an Arnold alley which they say has been a “nightmare” for years.

A man has been hospitalised following a serious assault on the unlit and overgrown pathway.

Nottinghamshire Police say the incident happened at around 8pm on Saturday in Coppice Road, Arnold.

An alleyway which runs between Coppice Road and Birchfield Road was taped off while police investigated.

One victim was taken to the Queen’s Medical Centre with injuries that are not considered to be life-altering or life-threatening.

A second man also received minor injuries but did not require hospital treatment.

Chris Taylor, who has lived in Coppice Road for 12 years, says he’s had police knock on his door five times while he has lived on the street.

He told the Post: “All I heard, it was Saturday, in the back garden was arguments and next thing the police and ambulance came flashing down. They should put cameras up or shut it up. It’s a haven for muggers.

“I heard it at the time and thought nothing of it until the sirens. It is awful. They need lighting. It’s disgusting and a regular occurrence.

“That alleyway is an absolute nightmare. What’s it going to take – for a young lad to die before they do something? It is always overgrown.”

Dave Watts, who has lived next to the alleyway for 63 years, said it has always been a problem.

He said: “I was out picking cherries out the back from my cherry tree about 7.30pm. Half of Nottingham constabulary was here last night – and ambulances.

“It’s having unruly children. If you let them get away with more and more by the time they are a teenager they are out of control. It’s those youths coming down this alleyway and I think, what is society coming to?

“I had a spate of youths throwing house bricks at my windows from that alleyway. I went out with my friend to try and catch them but they never came back.”

Two police cars remained at the scene on Sunday morning.

A cordon which stretched across Coppice Road was later removed and last night only remained across the alleyway.

Detective Inspector Daniel Johnstone, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “We are currently investigating reports of an assault and would like to speak to anybody who was in the area at the time and may have seen something.

“We believe there were a number of witnesses and I would urge anyone who saw what happened to please come forward.

“We are also keen to trace anyone who was driving in the area and might have dash cam footage that could assist our enquiries.

“Anyone with any information is asked to call police on 101 quoting incident 748 of July 9, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
