Make sure barbecues are put out, fire service urges
NOTTINGHAMSHIRE Fire and Rescue crews have left Sherwood Pines after a large fire broke out.
The service received an initial call to a fire in Sherwood Pines at 11.35pm on Monday, July 11, where 40,000sqm of forest was alight.
Several fire crews attended the fire, including fire engines, water bowsers and a welfare unit.
After the main fire was extinguished at 6pm on Tuesday, July 12, the crews remained at the scene to dampen the land and conduct periodic inspections until 7am yesterday morning.
A spokesperson from Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue said: “During this incident, we had crews from Edwinstowe, Mansfield, Worksop, Warsop, Blidworth, Tuxford, Southwell, Harworth, Eastwood, Collingham, Ashfield, Stockhill, London Road, as well crews from Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service to help to tackle the fire.
“Following re-inspection to the site this morning, using a thermal imaging camera, no hotspots were found and we have since left this incident.”
“Due to the size and nature of the incident, the cause of the fire is undetermined.
“With the warm weather, these fires can happen and sadly we expect a lot more fires like this to occur over the coming days and weeks.”
As the hot weather is set to continue, Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue is advising the public to only use barbecues in designated areas and ensure they fully extinguish their barbecue with water.
If you come across a wildfire you should keep a safe distance, call 999 and give as much information as possible about the fire.
