PEOPLE in Stapleford are upset that their “nice park” is being left covered in litter.

The problems have been occurring at Queen Elizabeth II Park, in Toton Lane, in Stapleford.

Rubbish has been left in the park around the bins, and people have said it is a daily occurrence.

Users of the park told the Post that they think it’s horrible that the park is left in that way.

Rumi Noor, 32, lives nearby and visits the park with her children.

She told the Post that she often finds the venue covered in litter.

The mother-of-two said: “There’s loads of bins, but rubbish has been left out – my four-year-old has just told me that.

“It’s not the first time, it’s always. You can’t miss it – there’s all sorts, crisp packets, drinks. It’s a shame because it’s for kids to play.

“It’s not nice, it’s horrible. You see the bins and they’re just a walk away.”

John Baker, from Stapleford, said that it’s disappointing to see the rubbish in the park.

The 68-year-old said: “I do notice it sometimes, and it’s not what you want to see.

“It’s a nice park and it’s a let down for people to leave their rubbish all over it. It’s so easy to put it in the bins, I don’t understand it.”

Valerie and Kevin Meakin often visit the park with their dog Archie.

They said the park is well kept and blamed foxes for scattering litter.

Valerie Meakin, 68, said: “It’s not too bad, the park keeper keeps it tidy. We thought it had been the foxes.”

Kevin added: “We have never actually seen anything – they do keep on top of it.”

Independent Councillor Richard Macrae said: “I’ve seen the stuff on social media, all the parks have plenty of bins – all the parks in Broxtowe.

“The majority of people use them, it’s a minority that don’t. Just put it in the bin, it’s not hard.

“For some people it’s only a little thing when there’s litter thrown on the floor, but when you look at the whole borough and people are picking up every day after other people, there’s a cost to that and that’s a lot of money that can be used on something better.

“Have a bit more pride in where you live and have a bit more pride in the parks because the council do their bit, you can’t have someone in the park every day making sure people are putting their rubbish in the bin.

“At the same time, if people do know a certain time in the day, contact the Broxtowe Borough Council and they can target that area.

“At the end of the day love where you live, have a bit of pride where you live.

“The bins do get emptied. Just put your rubbish in the bins – it’s that simple.”
