‘Talks’ are held over possible Davis return

-

NOTTINGHAM Forest are said to have held talks over the possibility of re-signing Keinan Davis this summer.

The Aston Villa striker impressed in the Garibaldi when he spent the second half of last season on loan at the City Ground. Having joined on the opening day of the January transfer window, he played a key part in the Reds’ promotion to the Premier League.

Davis has previously said he would be open to putting pen to paper for Forest. And while he is part of Villa’s squad in Australia for pre-season, his future at the club is believed to be uncertain.

The Reds and Villa have held “cordial discussions” over a potential deal, according to the Telegraph. Although an agreement is not “imminent”, it is said there remains a chance the forward could yet link up with Steve Cooper’s squad again.

Forest have already added Taiwo Awoniyi to their ranks this summer.

The 24-year-old made the switch from Union Berlin for a club record fee last month.

However, the Reds are expected to target further attacking options as they prepare for the top-flight, particularly as Lewis Grabban is believed to have turned down the offer of a new deal. In addition to Awoniyi, Cooper currently has Sam Surridge, Brennan Johnson, Lyle Taylor and Nuno Da Costa on the books - although there is a question mark over where the latter two feature in his plans.

A £15m price tag has been mooted for Davis, who scored five goals in 22 appearances for Forest last season.

Earlier this year, when asked if he would like to stay beyond the summer, he said: “Yeah, of course. This is the best I’ve played and the most I’ve enjoyed my football in my whole entire life, so it’s just great to be here.

“We have a bit of banter about that, about loving it here. But as you can tell by the way we’re playing, you can tell us loan signings all love it here.”
