Major is right about value of restraint

JOHN Major, a former prime minister, said quite an unusual word the other day on the radio, in which he reflected in the state of political parties, the Prime Minister, society, people’s language and behaviour. The word was restraint.

How many people have shown a lack of restraint in their behaviour to other people? How many have shown a lack of restraint when it came to respecting other people’s beliefs, views, identity, or opinions?

We have seen a lack of restraint in recent days, with successors clambering over each other to put their two-penny-worth into why they should be considered for the forthcoming vacant position of Prime Minister.

Like wars, politics are brutal, with no laws or rules adhered in achieving its goal – again, no restraint is shown.

How many of the candidates promise some form of tax reduction or later, promises with little restraint that the country can illafford?

We have inflation getting out of control, with labour/employment tightening, thus causing companies difficulty in keeping their staff levels or being able to grow.

How many readers have seen nearly every shop and company seeking staff, or being approached to see or enquire if any of their family or friends would like to work for a company or organisation? How many showed restraint in their actions to address the Covid pandemic?

Maybe I should have, at times, shown restraint in some of my letters, but it is a fault within all of us at times, and I am not professional or a public figure.
