Happy meals
Celebs’ favourite dishes, a Hollywood con and a twisting tale are among this week’s suggestions
ONE DISH
Food can live long in our memories, evoking the feelings we experienced when eating it for the first time.
A dish can transport you back to fighting your siblings for the last roast potato or to the time your mum made hot chocolate after you got soaked on the walk home from school.
Andi Oliver taps into those memories by inviting fellow cooks and other celebrity guests to share their favourite dishes and the personal stories behind them.
Her enthusiasm for people and their food makes these short conversations cut to the chase.
Great British Bake Off 2016 finalist Benjamina Ebuehi comes bearing carrot cake, while Drag Race star Cheryl Hole serves up lasagne with a side of nostalgia.
The only downside is that listeners don’t get to tuck in too. Where to start: Comedian Phil Wang describes a Malaysian noodle dish that looks unappealing but tastes delicious.
CHAMELEON: HOLLYWOOD CON QUEEN
Hollywood is one of the biggest cliques on the planet – to break in you have to know somebody important who’s willing to give you a leg up.
So it’s hard to judge those who grab at an apparently once-in-alifetime chance to become one of the chosen few who make it in the movie industry.
For those who fell prey to the alleged Hollywood Con Queen that meant paying for your own flight to Indonesia to work as a fitness trainer/make-up artist/ actor on a major film that would never materialise.
We hear their stories in this true crime podcast. Indonesian food blogger Hargobind Tahilramani was arrested in connection with the scam in Manchester in 2020 and is expected to face a delayed extradition trial in the US in November.
Where to start: Hear how fitness trainer Eddie lost thousands of dollars after receiving a call from a supposed powerful producer.
