Have we seen last of Lolley in a Forest shirt?

REPORT CLAIMS MIDFIELDER TOLD HE HAS NO FUTURE WITH REDS AND IS TRAINING WITH CLUB’S UNDER-23S

JOE LOLLEY’S Nottingham Forest career appears to be all but over after he was reportedly told to go and train with the club’s Under-23s side.

The 29-year-old started the Reds’ opening pre-season friendly against Coventry City over in Spain last Friday but was forced off midway through the first half with an injury.

Lolley was not in the squad which took on Burton Albion in another friendly run-out at The Pirelli Stadium on Tuesday, a game Steve Cooper’s side won 1-0.

His absence may well have been linked to the knock he picked up against the Sky Blues, but an article published by The Athletic yesterday claims the winger’s days with the club will now be spent away from the first team.

It is suggested Lolley has been told he has “no future” on Trentside and has been “ordered” to train with the Under-23s.

Being told to stay away from the first team would almost certainly end his four-year stay with the Garibaldi.

Arriving from Huddersfield Town amid a flurry of signings on transfer deadline day in January 2018 made by then-boss Aitor Karanka, Lolley has made 170 appearances for the Reds, scoring 27 goals.

He quickly endeared himself to the Forest faithful and was named the club’s Player of the Year in 2019.

A bad run of injuries had seen his appearance numbers dwindle in recent years, and while he did appear 30 times in last season’s run to Premier League promotion via the play-offs, only 11 of these were starts.

His last competitive involvement again came off the bench during the play-off semi-final second leg against Sheffield United at the City Ground in May.
