Nisa to see you!

- By CAROLINE BARRY newsdesk@nottinghampost.com

SHOPPERS are delighted about a new Nisa store on Gedling Road.

The shop – which was a Co-op for many years – closed for refurbishments before Monday’s relaunch.

With a fresh new look, it will still sell many of the much-loved brands and Co-op products. It has also been given a new slushie machine.

Dharsan Premkumar, of independent convenience store operator The Highbury Vale Limited, bought the Gedling Road shop, between Carlton and Gedling Village.

He also runs other stores in Nottingham.

“It was a long time for us to get ready to open as it takes a few months.” Mr Premkumar said.

“We decided on this store about a year ago so it took that length of time to get the transition done.

“We had a quick turnaround once we got the keys on Tuesday – we were ready by Saturday afternoon.

“There was quite a bit of extensive work done. We saw a good opportunity here, and we are based in Nottingham with three other stores too.

“I only live five minutes down the road. We thought this was a good store with a good customer base and location.

“We thought it would be a shame if it closed down.”

Mr Premkumar said many of the staff had opted to stay on after the changeover. “When we decided to purchase, we met all the staff who were lovely and we kept everyone who wanted to stay on, including the store manager,” he said.

“Our plan is to retrain them on the Nisa system, which gives them a little bit more freedom.

“It will give the customers a bit more freedom if they want to request items too, without going through an extensive process to get it in.”

Local resident Vanessa Ferris used the old Co-op shop. She likes the change.

“It’s very nice and it seems a lot lighter inside,” she said. “It’s lovely to see some of the Co-op brands that you get used to there, along with new things.

“I’ve lived here all my life and this shop has been here for years ,so it’s nice to see a bit of a change actually.”

Allison Long, who had popped in to grab some groceries, added: “It’s much better than before as it’s fresh and clean.

“My son likes what they sell, especially the slushies and the milkshakes.

“We didn’t want it to change at first, but we like it.”
