COURSE ALTERED FOR 2022 AFTER COMPETITOR FEEDBACK

ONE of Nottingham’s biggest events has announced a change that will affect its participants and drivers in Nottingham.

Organisers of the Robin Hood Halfmarathon, taking place on Sunday, September 25, have taken on runners’ feedback and have announced an alteration to the course.

Now in its 41st year, the event is predicted to welcome up to 10,000 runners to the half-marathon, with up to 2,000 lining up for the full marathon.

According to race organisers, the feedback from last year’s event was overwhelmingly positive, but runners said they did not like the switch back on Derby Road, and that the top of Castle Road was a pinch point early in the race.

The organisers have designed a new route to replace both of these elements, which will see runners using part of Maid Marian Way for the first time, and a new loop inside the Nottingham University Jubilee Campus, whilst still retaining some of Nottingham’s favourite landmarks, including Nottingham Castle, The Park Estate, Trent Bridge and Wollaton Deer Park.

Pavlos Kotsonis, portfolio holder for leisure, culture and planning at Nottingham City Council, said: “The Robin Hood Half-marathon has become a popular fixture in Nottingham’s busy events calendar, and the city looks forward to welcoming runners and supporters from Nottingham and beyond to the 41st event.

“The city council has been working with the organisers to ensure a successful event for participants and spectators.”

Race director Judith Manson added: “We’ve really listened to our runners and we understand why they didn’t like the switch back on Derby Road or the tight turn before mile two on the halfmarathon route, so we’ve removed both.

“These small changes will make a big difference and, of course, we’ve worked hard to ensure the route still captures the iconic sights of Nottingham, and builds on this extremely popular course.

“The route still includes the muchloved Victoria Embankment start and the race village finish, so the atmosphere will be fantastic.”
