PEOPLE in part of West Bridgford have spoken in disbelief after police cordoned off a house and charged a man with attempted murder.

A woman has been left in a critical condition after an alleged incident in Loughborough Road on Monday, July 25.

The force were called to reports of an assault and officers said a woman had been taken to hospital with multiple injuries. She is in a critical but stable condition.

Laurence Griffiths, 41, of Loughborough Road, West Bridgford, has been charged with attempted murder in connection with the incident. He was due to appear at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday (July 27).

On Wednesday morning, people in the area described feeling surprised and an overriding sense of disbelief.

Kevin Joyce, 64, who was walking nearby, said: “It looks pretty serious whatever it is – you really don’t expect to see it. It definitely came as a shock when I noticed it.

“I haven’t seen a cordon in this part of West Bridgford before, from memory.”

Others described seeing forensics combing for clues. One Loughborough Road resident, who asked not to be named, said: “The police cordon has been in place since Monday, July 25. Early Monday morning around 9am a number of police and ambulance were on scene. The police have been here ever since. It looked pretty serious. Police have been manning the scene ever since. Forensics are back on scene as we speak.”

Another neighbour, who asked not to be named, said: “I don’t know what’s happened, they haven’t told us. They’ve been here longer than just today – that’s all I can say. We are just minding our own business and letting them do what they have to do.”

Detectives have been checking CCTV footage and carrying out house-to-house enquiries.

Detective Inspector Nick Hall, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “Our investigation to understand the circumstances surrounding this incident remains ongoing. I would like to reassure local residents we have increased patrols in the area while we pursue multiple lines of enquiry, and anyone who is concerned can approach them.

“While we have now charged a suspect we are urging anyone who saw what happened to please get in touch with us as soon as possible.

“We would also like to hear from anyone in the area who may have captured CCTV or dashcam footage which could aid us with our lines of enquiry.”

Anyone with any information should call Nottinghamshire Police on 101, quoting incident 189 of July 25, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
