CONCERN AT ‘LACK OF INFRASTRUCTURE’ AS 124 NEW HOMES PROPOSED FOR ‘QUIET’ VILLAGE

PEOPLE living in a ‘nice and quiet’ Nottinghamshire village have welcomed plans to create more than 120 homes in their community.

But concerns have been raised over whether Teversal, near Suttonin-ashfield, has the infrastructure to cope with the 124 new properties.

The development, on land north of Fackley Road, involves a range of one to four-bedroom properties. There will be 112 properties for market housing, six affordable properties and another six for ‘affordable home ownership.’

The plans show vehicle access to the development would be from Fackley Road and Crompton Street. As well as this, the plans show several pedestrian and cyclist connections.

Sian Barlow, 30, said that the new developments mean needing new facilities in the area. The history student said: “We need new homes, it’s a bit of a concern when we can barely get in the doctors or dentist. They need to facilitate these people, that’s the issue I have. I really like it here, I’ve lived all around Ashfield and it’s nice and quiet.”

Brian Townsend, who has lived in the area his whole life, shared concern for the loss of green belt land.

The 66-year-old said: “Put in 124 homes, there’s no bus service, the infrastructure, no shops, no doctors in Teversal, the roads and its wildlife. Wild deer have only just started coming back and they want to get rid of the land.

He added: “Instead of putting houses, why not multi-storey flats? I know you’d get an influx of people but it’s not using as much land. I don’t mind building but there are plenty of places to build that are not green belt.”

Hundreds of homes have also been proposed in the nearby area. 141 homes are slated for a development of agricultural land next to Brand Lane, Stanton Hill.

Next to this proposed site is a brand new housing development by Harron Homes, on Brand Lane.

With some already built, the development is set to have 171 homes, and locals wondered when the building is ‘going to stop.’ Scott Bradley, 30, a personal trainer, said that he welcomes the plans as he understands everywhere needs to grow. Mr Bradley said: “To be honest, people need somewhere to live. For me personally, it doesn’t affect me much. People just need somewhere to live and get away from life. “There are wars and stuff, people come to England and it’s a refuge place. It’s one of the reasons England is so good. It doesn’t bother me.

“Every city starts off small, everything grows. It’s not something you can stop, it’s what happens.”

I don’t mind building but there are plenty of places to build that are not green belt.
