Cheers as beer festival returns to Arboretum

TWO DAYS OF ALES, STREET FOOD AND LIVE MUSIC BACK FOR AUGUST BANK HOLIDAY

- By CAROLINE BARRY caroline.barry@reachplc.com

THE Nottingham Arboretum is set to hold a two-day beer festival that says it will combine the very best in beer, street food and live music across the August Bank Holiday weekend on Friday, August 26, and Saturday, August 27.

The festival will also offer real ale and ciders from both national and local breweries.

Beer fans will be able to soak up the sunshine in the beautiful surroundings of the Arboretum and enjoy a full line-up of live music and DJS playing from the historic bandstand. There will be performances from Deep Down Brass, who are a six-piece brass and drums group that will be playing pop hits throughout the Friday.

They will be joined by the Outriders, who will play a collection of their favourite hit songs in their own style with plenty of opportunities for dancing.

When it comes to Saturday, visitors will be treated to a set from the acoustic tribute act AKA Noel Gallagher, who will play a selection of songs from Noel’s High Flying Birds and Oasis. Also joining on the day will be Dead Mans Uke who have a dirt swing, hokum and old blues sound including covers played on the double bass and ukulele.

Mariachi Tequila will be adding to the bank holiday vibes by playing upbeat Mariachi music and cover versions of pop and rock hits. There will also be an Acoustic Rooms takeover featuring unplugged performances and DJ sets from local favourites, along with quiz options and bingo.

There are 20 breweries taking part in the two-day event to showcase their products, along with street food to soak up the suds.

The brewery line-up includes local favourites Castle Rock, Neon Raptor, Bang The Elephant, Mardy Bum, Totally Brewed and Navigation, with national breweries Thornbridge, Vocation, Brew York and Gweilo.

When it comes to the food, beer fans can look forward to wood-fired pizza from The Pizza Box, Squeaky Beaver Poutine and also street food from The Snobby Butcher. There will also be a barbecue from Buffalo Trace.

This is the second year that the event has taken place in Nottingham after it was introduced in 2021, and helped locals get access to live music despite lockdown restrictions. The event was staged by live music company DHP Family as part of the Arboretum Sunsets, and hosted a collection of live gigs including a performance from Grace Petrie.

Patrick Somers, senior promotions manager and chief beer-taster for DHP Family, said: “We’re thrilled to be back in the amazing surroundings of Nottingham Arboretum this summer, combining our love of events with our love of great beer for the second instalment of our annual Arboretum Beer Festival. The team at DHP looks forward to welcoming the good folks of Nottingham and those from further afield to the sunny Arb’ this August Bank Holiday.”

Tickets are on sale, with early bird passes for £10 per day or £15 for a weekend which includes a commemorative Arboretum Beer Festival cup. General admission tickets are £12.50 Friday and £15 Saturday.
