2 hurt, 4 held in pub ‘melee’
POLICE have described a “chaotic scene” in which two people were injured and four arrested following a suspected fight outside a pub in Basford.
Nottinghamshire Police were called to the disturbance outside the Horse and Groom, on Radford Road, shortly after 4am yesterday.
Although Radford Road itself was not cordoned off, part of the adjacent North Gate was.
Two men were treated in hospital for injuries sustained in what police described as a “melee”. None of the injuries were believed to be life-threatening or life altering.
Three men – aged 37, 35, and 31 – and a 20-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of affray.
People in the area had mixed reactions.
Wayne Young, 37, who works at 4 Seasons Tyre Shop, said: “I got into work around 8.30am and the cordon was already there, There’s always stuff going on around here, you just get used to it really though.”
Ali Sah, who works for The Auto Clinic on North Gate, said: “I didn’t see anything, but when I got here at 9am, the cordon was already here.
“I’ve been working here for seven months and the area is usually quiet, I’ve not known anything like that to happen before.” Another worker, who wished to remain anonymous, said: “There was a party going off last night when I left the area at around 6pm, and this morning there was a cordon in place. You get incidents like that all the time around here.” Detective Inspector Ashley Xavier said: “This was a particularly chaotic scene and response officers did a great job to calm things down and identify suspects. “We are now working to understand exactly what happened and have already reviewed a considerable amount of evidence. “We would also like to speak to any additional witnesses who have not yet come forward – particularly those who may have recorded video footage of events before our officers arrived.” Anyone who can help is asked to call 101, quoting incident 130 of July 31.
