‘Concern’ over road ‘chaos’ as modular homes craned in

RESIDENTS SAY PARKING IS ALREADY AN ISSUE AROUND AREA OF 131-HOUSE SITE

PEOPLE living close to a 131-home development have spoken of the trouble that could be caused on a road that is already full of “chaos”.

The first of the off-site manufactured affordable homes, Arnold’s first factorybuilt properties, have been installed in Rolleston Drive, Arnold.

Six modules were craned into place as part of the first phase of the Birch Fields development, which will be owned and managed by housing provider Jigsaw Homes Group. Each house is being engineered by modular housing pioneer ilke Homes at the company’s 250,000 sq ft factory in Knaresborough, North Yorkshire.

The Homes Eng- land-backed devel- opment will deliver

45 two-bedroom homes, 73 three- bedroom homes, and

13 four-bedroom homes.

Yet, local residents have expressed concern over the development, with some citing an influx of people and a lack of parking spaces as issues.

Paul Careless, 65, who lives nearby, said: “What concerns me is whether it’s too many people moving in, but I don’t think we’ll know the answer to that until they’ve moved in three years from now or whenever it is.

“I think cars are also an issue, whether traffic is going to just increase, because there are enough cars on these roads already.

“Personally, I really don’t like the parking situation on this road, I think it’s terrible. Look at all the cars parked on the pavement – it makes the roads narrower than they already are. The roads are chaos now.”

Seventy-three-year-old Cerys Turner, who lives in Darlton Drive, said: “The one and only worry for me is parking. There’s not a lot of spaces as there is, and even though they’ll probably introduce some new parking spaces, there’s going to be a lot more cars on the road.

“Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for it for the pubs and cafe’s and the restaurants – they all need to make a living.

“I guess you don’t really know what to expect from the people until they’ve moved in because you don’t know what sort of people they’ll be. “This is an older neighbourhood too so I don’t know how kids will settle in. “That area’s been a wasteland for a long time now. I’ve had my life though to be honest, so it doesn’t matter too much to me.”

A total of 46 homes will be available through shared ownership from Snugg Homes, part of Jigsaw Homes Group. The remaining 85 for affordable rent will be managed by Jigsaw Homes Midlands and allocated to local people via Gedling Borough Council.

The homes will be installed in phases throughout the next year, with all 131 homes completed by autumn 2023.

Joanne Bonnington, assistant director of development at Jigsaw Homes Group, said: “It has been very exciting to see the first few modules arrive onsite after witnessing them being constructed inside the factory.

“We are looking forward to the completion of more modules with ilke Homes and delivering affordable, sustainable housing to meet local need.”
