‘Thanks for reception – I’ll give 110% each game’

-

JESSE Lingard has thanked Nottingham Forest fans for the “amazing reception” after making his debut for the club.

The former Manchester United ace got his first run-out in the Garibaldi on Saturday, playing almost 80 minutes of the 1-1 friendly draw with Valencia. And the Reds supporters showed their appreciation, raising a loud cheer when his name was read out in the starting line-up pre-match, then giving him a standing ovation when he was brought off.

Lingard did well against the Spanish visitors. Although still building up his match sharpness – having not had any meaningful minutes in pre-season prior to the game at Meadow Lane – he showed glimpses of what he has to offer.

The 29-year-old was involved in much of Forest’s attacking play early on, and tried his luck at goal a few times. He also showed his commitment to the cause with a willingness to track back and defend.

Posting a video on social media afterwards, he said: “Thank you to the fans for a warm reception. I really, really appreciate it. I’m going to do my best for Nottingham Forest, don’t worry about that – 110 percent each game.”

And writing on Instagram, alongside pictures of himself in action, he said: “Felt great to be back out there again doing what I love. Thank you all for the amazing reception. Now all eyes on next weekend @officialnffc @jlingz”

Lingard will hope to make his competitive debut for the club in the Reds’ season opener at Newcastle United next Saturday. Their first home clash in the Premier League is against West Ham United the following Sunday.
