LOCALS hope a pub they call a lovely spot with great food and drink will be saved.

Sherwood residents were surprised to see a “Lease this pub” sign at the Crafty Teller.

The pub, on Mansfield Road, was opened by Anthony Dowling in 2018 after a £225,000 makeover to transform it into a plush familyfriendly bar and kitchen. It was previously Finnbars.

The contemporary-style pub serves barista-style coffee, cocktails, craft ales and food. The decor is a talking point with neon signs and artwork by Cornish graffiti artist Sketch.

A day after the sign was put up by Star Pubs & Bars, the Crafty Teller team made an announcement on its Facebook page, saying: “It is with a heavy heart that we have decided to put the Crafty Teller up to let. “The last few years have been difficult for everyone and we have decided to change our lifestyle and give ourselves a bit of a much-needed rest. “We can assure you that the venue will continue to trade and will remain a part of the Sherwood high street, and the new owners will be sure to keep the venue an awesome place to visit. We won’t be leaving just yet, so please continue visiting us.”

“All the local and independent businesses in Sherwood are friendly. It would be a shame to see this close.

“Hopefully, with new operators not much changes – I’ve been in a few times.”

Lottie Chambers, a 24-year-old student nurse, said: “I’ve been in here a few times.

“The staff are lovely and it’s a nice atmosphere. It is a bit pricey, though. The Robin Hood isn’t really my scene, but it’s cheaper and there’s the Samuel Hall, that’s cheaper too. I’m glad it’s not closing down because it is popular.”
