Becky building up a following for deli’s fresh and homemade food

-

THE owner of a new deli says it is already proving popular with locals.

The Daybrook Deli on Mansfield Road officially opened on Friday, March 8, after weeks of refurbishment by new owner Becky Payne.

The premises had been closed for around a year and a half following the closure of another business in the wake of the pandemic.

Becky said: “It’s been really, really good, really busy.

It was an empty premises so it’s all been refurbished and we’ve had lots of repeat customers and new customers every day and we’re getting busier and busier.”

There is seating at the front of the deli and customers can enjoy range of items, such as sandwiches, doughnuts from Doughnotts, and fill-your-own salad bowls.

Hot food prepared in the kitchen at the back includes jacket potatoes, breakfasts, fish finger sandwiches and sausage rolls.

Becky added: “Everything we do, we do fresh and we aim to do homemade as much as possible and to the highest quality.” The business, near the county council’s offices in the former Home Brewery building, has recently been graded a five - and ‘Very Good’ - by the Food Standards Agency.

Becky said: “Everyone is really blown away when they come in and see the difference. We have a proper coffee machine as well serving Stewarts [of Trent Bridge] coffee from Blend in town and we do all the different syrups and hot chocolates from them.

“People come in and work here and we have USB points for chargers and free Wi-fi.”

She said that the Doughnotts doughnuts are fresh every morning and always sell out.

Becky decided to take over the premises in January after noticing the premises were still empty. She said: “This is completely new for me, I was a hairdresser by trade and went on to have two children.

“Now I have two young children and it was time to go back to work. I came past in January and I was aware it was empty and that it had always been an eatery, so I thought let’s give it a go.”
