It’s never too late...

- Faith Sarbjit Gill

MARK Chapter 1 verse 15: Jesus said “The time has come,” The kingdom of God has come near. Repent and believe the good news.

Many times in our lives we make decisions that we may think are right at the time. However, later in life we may feel it was the wrong decision. We have regrets, thinking if I could only go back in time and restart again, we say and do things that we feel that could have been done differently.

We sometimes want a new start, a clean slate. But then we feel just carry on with the way things are, having a feeling of regret, sorrow and even guilt.

As we have just celebrated Easter a time of resurrection as Jesus was crucified on the cross and he rose again on the third day. Jesus did say “repent and believe the good news”. When I read these words of Jesus, he is simply saying just repent in other words tell him what are your regrets, your mistakes. Change your ways to be a better person. Because he loves you as you are, he will forgive you and if you make him the Lord of your life and saviour he will protect you, guide you and help you.

Believing the good news is reading the bible God’s words, is getting to know him, understand him and build a relationship with him.

Only when we build a healthy relationship with God can we understand him. We cannot feel God and cannot see him. But we can trust his words, his promises and believe. In this way you will know him and have an encounter with him.

Surely, it is better to know God and give him a chance to work in your life. If you don’t then that is your choice, God never forces himself on you but if you do, God’s spiritual presence will be with you.

He is there to help you and guide you but you need to speak to him, not assume that automatically he will be there with you. But ask him to be there for you. ■■Sarbjit Gill is a member of Mansfield Road Baptist Church and a chaplain to Nottinghamshire Police.
