Opening date is given for new tenant at town store

-

AN opening date has been given for the new tenant moving into the former Poundstretcher and Pet Hut in Nuneaton,

Passers-by will have noticed some major changes to the large building off Regent Street.

It is set to become a huge donation centre for the Salvation Army, which has its local HQ in nearby Victoria Street in the town centre.

The Salvation Army has confirmed to Coventrylive that the official opening of the new donation centre will be held on Tuesday, May 7 at 10am and Major David Stephenson from The Salvation Army Nuneaton Corps will perform the honours.

The Nuneaton store will be the Salvation Army’s 45th donation centre to open in the UK.

Much work has been taking place inside the former shop and it now boasts a number of different sections, from music to bric-a-brac and furniture.

The donation centre will be in addition to the existing Salvation Army charity shop in Newdegate Street as well as the church itself.

“Our donation centres are all about community and affordability,” said a Salvation Army spokesperson.

“Each donation centre has a similar look and feel, all offer a large shopping area with furniture, homeware, fashion and electricals, as well as 24-7 clothing banks at each site. We reuse and repurpose locally, including larger items and white goods that smaller high street stores are not able to accommodate.

“But it’s the focus on the community that makes each donation centre special to the people it serves.”

Salvation Army officials have said that prior to the official opening, people can make donations to the centre.

Clothing and shoes can also be donated to the clothing banks, which are based outside the store at any time.

There are also free furniture collections which can be arranged by calling the store on 024 7509 8520.
