1970 Range Rover
By Almost Real Price £189.95 Material Diecast
Besides being a supremely competent 4x4, the original Range Rover is a design icon in its own right, a fact reflected in the huge prices that exceptional examples now command. So this new Chinese-made, large-scale diecast is a welcome arrival – and it doesn’t disappoint.
It isn’t perfect: rather unfortunately, the model makers have gone to the trouble of including soft-touch ‘carpet’ when, of course, the real vehicle had hose-out vinyl floor coverings. Errors like this are common when a model is based on a restored example rather than an original car. But compensations include doorskins that are superbly thin, fine exterior door hinges, and a detailed chassis with working coil suspension – even if it doesn’t offer anything like the axle articulation of the full-size vehicle.
