Men’s style guru Jeremy Hackett’s favourite things

From a shop selling secondhand clothes to Sloane Rangers in 1983 on London’s King’s Road, today he heads the Hackett brand and is a guru of British style in men’s clothing

Hackett does a lot with Aston Martin Racing, so I commissioned a silversmith in Sheffield to make this sculpture of the DBR9. It’s a limited edition, one of just six. I do like the line of these Astons. This Bremont chrono is a celebration of the D-type Jaguar. My American father was a successful doctor who raced cars for fun with the Savannah Sports Car Club, including a Jaguar XK, a Corvette and a Maserati. I have quite a few old photographs of him with his cars, including a beautiful D-type Jaguar, so I was very attracted to this watch. Especially as I never met my father. I also have a Jaguar XK120 model, plus one of an MG RV8 because I once owned one. I really liked it, but the V8 engine felt too powerful and it overheated, the softtop leaked and it wasn’t very reliable. I have put together a number of books on English style. This one was done for Japan. As a keen photographer I always carry my trusty Leica and shoot images all the time. I did the photography for this book and some others. The words, too. Hackett has collaborated with Swatch watches and we produced 1983 examples – Hackett started in 1983 – of this watch with a lovely leather strap featuring the Hackett ‘H’. It sold out in 10 days. Muffin and Harry are Sussex spaniels and are mother and son. They come everywhere with me and enjoy drives in my Range Rover. The only official title I have is Patron of the Sussex Spaniel Association! This leather map case is very nicely constructed and I like the ‘Great Britain’ embossed into the leather and the silver lock. The maps inside are beautifully illustrated and cover all corners of Britain. I have always run Range Rovers. I started with the Classic, then had the P38 and so on through the various models since. This one is painted in Hackett Blue. The air vents and side trims, normally finished in silver, are colour-matched, which I think is more discreet. Silver objects fascinate me and I have been collecting for years. The cigarette and medicine cases that look like books, the top-hat biscuit barrel, the bristle brush, the Muffin and Harry cufflinks and the miniature shoes are all beautiful, and the Edwardian Vesta pocket match case is very collectable. Useful, too, because I do enjoy the occasional Cuban cigar. I love watches and IWC Pilots are a particular favourite; the Mk18 has a very clean and clear design. The Rolex [centre] is a 1963 Explorer I inherited from my mother and the TAG Heuer [extreme right] is an Aston Martin Racing limited edition.
