OUR COLUMNIST ON WHY SHE AND PETE MAKE A GOOD TEAM, THEIR DIY MISHAP AND DATE NIGHTS

-

Pete and I had a lovely day celebrating our fifth wedding anniversary. He organised lots of little surprises like a delivery of the most amazing breakfast spread with waffles, pancakes, pastries and bagels. He also got us an incredible cake, which we’re still making our way through. As the traditional gift for five years is wood, I said I was going to get Pete to do some furniture DIY, and that’s exactly what we did. We had a bit of a mishap when we dropped a king-size bed frame on my toe! It was so painful and I thought it was broken as it went black and blue. Talk about a happy anniversary!

We’re redoing the upstairs of the house and splitting the large bedroom into two rooms. Princess will then move into the new cosy room and Junior will have the bigger room. Millie and Princess currently share a room, but once Theo starts going to nursery more in September, he and Millie are going to start sharing, which was always the plan. We’re also having the gym done. It’s in the garage so we’re having it made into a proper room, which will be great. Lockdown has made us go into home improvement mode!

Over the years, Pete and I have definitely become closer. Like everyone, we have our challenges, whether it’s work or the kids, but we always feel that we’re a good team. We’re good at different things and that’s why it works. We’ve always said it’s important for us to have time as a couple as it makes us better parents to the kids. Having children is definitely my biggest achievement. Every time someone says they seem like lovely children, it makes me feel so proud. Spending time just the two of us has obviously been more difficult in lockdown, but now we’ve finally been able to go for our first date night in four months! My dad came down to babysit. It was so nice to go for a solo outing to a restaurant.
