Their love story has been somewhat of a fairy tale. But the recent turn of events that saw Kim Kardashian West admit she is “powerless” to help her husband Kanye West amid his battle with bipolar disorder left many Kimye fans worrying for the couple.
Kim, 39, gracefully stood by her husband, 43, as she broke her silence on his mental health after he tearfully claimed the couple considered aborting their daughter North, seven, at his first presidential campaign rally.
This was followed by a series of now-deleted tweets that said he’s been trying to divorce Kim since she met rapper Meek Mill at a hotel two years ago and compared his motherin-law Kris Jenner to North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, dubbing her “Kris Jong-un.” Kanye also accused the Kardashian family of white supremacy, compared his life to the horror film Get Out and claimed Kim tried to get a doctor to “lock him up”.
Kim, who also shares Saint, four, Chicago, two, and Psalm, one, with Kanye, asked for “compassion” in her heartfelt statement that went on to explain that those who understand mental illness know, “The individuals themselves have to engage in the process of getting help no matter how hard family and friends try.”
She continued, “I’ve never spoken publicly about how this has affected us at home because I’m very protective of our children and Kanye’s right to privacy when it comes to his health. Those who are close with Kanye know his heart and understand his words sometimes do not align with his intentions.”
For the family, there is still the Kardashian brand to protect – which is reportedly worth nearly $2.2 billion – but super-agent Professor Jonathan Shalit OBE tells OK!, “I don’t think this will damage the Kardashian brand. If anything, Kim behaving in such a caring and dignified way will garner sympathy. Her statement was very supportive.”
Jonathan continues, “Kris Jenner is very wise. She is not going to let the Kardashian brand be damaged. Kim was an A-lister before she married Kanye and the family are a global, class act. I’ve met Kris and Khloé. I know from having spent time with them that they’re decent, caring people. Clearly Kanye has some personal challenges and hopefully he will get help. It’s a sad situation.”
“Momager” Kris helped Kim go from Paris Hilton’s personal assistant to one of the most famous women in the world, all while landing the family their own reality show, Keeping Up With The Kardashians, and carefully curating a picture-perfect image far removed from the leaked sex tape that made her famous.
But above all, Jonathan says the Kardashians will always put family first. “They’re a good family and they’ll do whatever is right. Kim has to do what is best for her children. She will have to work out, how far does love go? Regardless of anything else.”
