OUR COLUMNIST DEFENDS MUMS’ RIGHTS AND SAYS WE SHOULDN’T JUDGE KANYE WEST TOO HARSHLY

Lucy Mecklenburgh (below) has hit back at a Twitter troll who said women shouldn’t breastfeed in public. Lucy wrote, “So u can eat but a hungry baby can’t!?” I couldn’t agree more. If you’re bothered by it, don’t look. It’s not against the law and it’s completely natural. It’s also beneficial for the health of the mum and baby, so it’s something we need to embrace in society. It’s a shame that people still have these views in this day and age. It’s so outdated!

Lucy has also revealed she suffered from mastitis and her son Roman had tongue-tie, making it difficult to get into a feeding routine. It was the same with Theo. I didn’t have mastitis with Millie but I got it three times with Theo. Because Theo was my second baby and I had breastfed before with no problems I could at least feel reassured that I wasn’t doing anything wrong. It didn’t cross my mind that Theo could have tongue-tie so I felt really silly afterwards for not realising. Even though I’m a doctor, I don’t look at my own children as patients. It’s easy to be very critical of yourself and think you should have seen or done something, but in reality, when it’s your own child, you look at things very differently.

Our bunnies, Willow and Teddy (right), have had their injections so now they’re allowed outside. They have a run in the garden and in the kitchen, plus two hutches – they’re the most spoilt rabbits in the world! I absolutely adore them but my allergies are so bad, which is really annoying. I have to wear a mask and sunglasses to clean out their hutch, so my mask for the supermarket has come in handy for more than just shopping! I’ve also been using my infrared allergy reliever for my nose, which is a lifesaver. It works by suppressing the cells that release histamine, which is what causes a reaction. The kids laugh whenever I use it and call me Rudolph!
