Reciprocating cams?
I have just read my latest edition of OBM to cover.
Unfortunately I have to correct Steve Cooper’s article that appears on page 14 regarding the Kawasaki
KL250 and Z200 four-stroke singles. He discusses the problem regarding running the engines camshaft directly in the cylinder head casting, without the benefit of renewable bearings.
In the article he describes it thus:
“Both motors ran their camshafts directly in the alloy cylinder head and, predictably the reciprocating steel was soon munching its way into its bearing surfaces.”.
The mistake that Steve has made is that camshafts do not reciprocate. Camshafts rotate.
I would hate anyone to read this and go through the rest of his life with the impression that camshafts reciprocate!
Keep up the good work during these difficult times as OBM is a lifeline to the real world during the present crisis. from cover
