TRIUMPH 2/1
Chris Moore in Cottingham, East Yorkshire, sends me this photograph of the 1934 250cc Triumph 2/1 which in 1959 his grandmother bought for £10 for his brother Nicholas. Two boys had been riding it round a field and wanted cash for their joint asset. Numerous bits were missing – lights, horn, rear numberplate, chain case, rear chain guard, etc.
When the DVLA was set up in the 1970s, he sent in the old-style log book to obtain a V5 and they, of course, destroyed it. He has cursed them ever since for losing the bike’s history.
The bike has frame number SL 771 and engine number R4-529, and was first registered in Buckinghamshire. Some of the old Buckinghamshire records are still held in the record office in Aylesbury, to which I have directed Chris.
