RIDE

Cornwall has long been a favourite destination at O and over the next few months getting there is due to get a lot more exciting. By early 2018 the upgrade of GWR’s Night Riviera sleeper trains – running between London Paddington and Penzance – will be complete, extending to all cabins and on-board lounge bars. The bars will promote products from destinations the train passes along the way (think Thatchers cider, Doom Bar amber ale and, for breakfast, Wolfy’s porridge; cabin passengers get croissants and bacon butties). Planning to catch some waves as well as the train? There’ll also be a dedicated space for surfboards, and bikes. gwr.com

SLEEP

Owned by the family behind the Dilmah Tea brand (which also runs the legendary Tea Trails and Cape Weligama hotels), Wild Coast Tented Lodge is a just-opened safari-style camp made up of 28 cocoon-shaped tents set beside a beach on the fringes of Sri Lanka’s Yala National Park. Geared towards wildlife enthusiasts, with a daily programme of lectures, workshops and nature walks, the lodge is sure to be a hit with foodie travellers too. A bamboo-clad bar and restaurant on site will focus on daily-changing Sri Lankan-inspired menus: think coconut- and chilli-rich curries, local seafood platters and a crop of fine Sri Lankan teas. resplendentceylon.com

EAT

Ever since Sofitel’s MGallery brand opened Paris’s slinky Hotel Molitor, with its iconic outdoor pool, in 2014, we’ve kept an eye on the company’s range of distinctive boutique hotels, and the destination restaurants that, more often than not, come with them. The latest to open is Victory House, in London. Perfectly placed for hitting the shops, guests in the hotel’s 86 bedrooms will also be able to make the most of the hotel’s Leicester Square location to explore some of the most exciting restaurants in the city centre. Or, just hang out at the hotel’s Petit Bistro, an all-day venture from Randall & Aubin’s Ed Baines and Jamie Poulton. The concept is Lyon-meets-New York-via-Yorkshire (the cheese list is curated by The Courtyard Dairy, pictured): expect posh chicken and chips, truffle burgers and French wines from boutique vineyards. sofitel.com
