Bottles to try this month…
Martín Códax albariño (£13.49, majestic.co.uk)
In Galicia, in north-west Spain, it is traditional for women to make wine. Men would go on fishing expeditions lasting months on end, so women were left to tend the grapes. Katia Álvarez has made the wine at this famous winery for more than a decade. A classic albariño that would be a hit with the chargrilled tuna with crunchy lemon bulgar salad on p51.
Mirabeau La Folie rosé NV (£12.99, waitrose.com)
This pretty pink fizz is made by Nathalie Longefay, who left her family’s estate in Beaujolais to make great rosés in Provence. Drink this as an aperitif or match it with the deep-fried goat’s cheese with pink peppercorn honey on p44.
Barbadillo amontillado (£9.50, oddbins.com)
Montserrat Molina has been at this famous sherry bodega for more than 20 years. Amontillados are rich and nutty with an appetising dry finish, and are really good with food. Sip this with the spiced carrot and lentil soup on p51.
Faldeos Nevados torrontés 2017 (£8.50, thewinesociety.com)
Susana Balbo is regarded as one of the best makers in South America. Torrontés is Argentina’s white grape, and has an aromatic richness that pairs well with warm spices. Lovely with the mussels with orzo and ’nduja on p18.
