Have you heard of Pasta Grannies? It’s a project from author Vicky Bennison, who set out to celebrate Italian nonne (plus the occasional grandfather) and the pasta they make – the kind of comforting, nourishing dishes that bring the whole family together. It started as a series of YouTube videos, but in a bid to ensure that such recipes were never forgotten, Vicky has now turned her project into a cookbook. It features 75 grandmothers from across Italy, sharing such recipes as pansotti with walnut pesto, and ‘straw’ and ‘hay’ tagliatelle with peas (£20, Hardie Grant).

Cult Recipes is both a cookbook and a cultural guide. So consider it your best friend when you next pay a visit to the Danish capital. Authors Susie Theodorou and Christine Rudolph explore everything from the true essence of hygge (that famed pursuit of cosiness, so revered by the Danes) to the importance of locally grown vegetables. Recipes are traditionally Danish, with modern twists. Try stjerneskud (an open sandwich layered with steamed and crispy plaice, thousand island dressing, prawns and dill), Copenhagen hot dogs with cucumber pickle, or homemade liquorice caramels (£20, Murdoch Books).
