CATTLE A strong entry of cattle, trade representa­tive of the quality forward, in simple terms, quality cattle sold very well indeed. Dairy cattle sold to £1,210 for a fresh heifer from P Webster, in-calf heifers from Messrs Hillary sold to £1,080, due early July.

Beef breeding cattle saw cows and calves to £1,350 for a blonde from Roger Copper, other fancied outfits to £1,140, £1,030 and £1,000. A grand Simmental bull from Colin and Angela Hardman made 1,600gns (£1,743).

One or two groups of dairy bred cattle suitable for longer keep do look half chancy at the minute, if you’ve got grass they could be worth a bid.

POULTRY A busy sale with a good variety of stock. It was good to see new buyers who were prepared to bid strongly. Families again sold well with a Muscovy duck and 15 ducklings £58, Silver Sussex pullet and 8 Copper Maran chicks £34, Gold Top broody and 13 Aracana chicks £32.

Peacocks sold well at £28 and £25 with a Toulouse gander at £22.A pair of Silver Appleyard call ducks £18.

PIGS Porker £120.21 average, cutter £117.56 average, baconer £99.42 average.

SHEEP An extra 100 lambs on offer met a firm demand. Prices have eased all week with a national of 195p on Wednesday.

Premium lambs over 215p to a top of 234p/kg for all Geoff Titterton’s 41kg Texels. Only a few old season on offer selling to 151p/kg.

EGGS FR XL £1.50, FR large £1.20, FR medium £1, XL £1.30, medium 70p. Duck £1.80, goose £1.10, turkey 40p, guinea fowl 1.60p.

STOCKFEED Hay £3, barley straw £1.50, wheat straw £1, tote beetroot £22, rolled barley £4.75, barley £4.

FRUIT AND VEG Rhubarb x 6kg £7.50, tomatoes £3.50, cos x 6 £2.50, mixed lollo £2.50, swede £4, onions x 9kg £4, cauliflowe­r x 6 £4.50, little gem x 9 £1.50, broad bean x 5lb £5.50, flat lettuce x 12 £3.

POTATOES New potatoes – Bard x 28lb £14, Rocket x 55lb £22, Accord x 55lb £20, old season Valor £4.
