Carl aims for top score with film
EDGE Hill University’s senior lecturer in media film and television, will direct Hurricane Films’ new feature film.
Carl Hunter will direct Triple Word Score, which stars Bill Nighy and was scripted by Frank Cottrell Boyce (Hilary And Jackie, 24 Hour Party People).
The supernatural comedy-drama follows the story of a father (Nighy) searching for his missing son, with whom he shared a passion for Scrabble.
The film is a journey of mystery, selfdiscovery and hope.
Carl said he was thrilled that his stint behind the camera will further highlight the filmmaking abilities of the North West and offer students the opportunity to be involved in the process.
He said: “By working on this film in partnership with my colleague and fellow film maker Clare Heney, we’re also hoping to establish a bespoke training programme that offers Edge Hill students the unique opportunity to be mentored by and shadow industry professionals throughout the filming.”
Triple Word Score will start shooting this summer in Liverpool and a number of other locations around West Lancashire.
The film adds to a growing list of releases for Bill Nighy, who has several films on the way, including WWII comedy Their Finest Hour And A Half and horror thriller The Limehouse Golem.
Carl and Clare have collaborated extensively with Frank Cottrell Boyce on various other ventures, including an award winning children’s book and an online narrative project.
Carl’s short vfilms have been screened at various festivals around the world. He co-wrote and produced the feature film Grow Your Own (also with Frank Cottrell Boyce) for BBC Films and Warp Films, and has directed many documentaries for British TV.
