Mayoral Briefings

-

SINCE becoming deputy mayor last year I’ve been astounded by the amount of voluntary work that is occurring across West Lancashire.

As mayor, I’m finding out even more about the work that is going on across the borough. As a borough we are so lucky to have so many dedicated individuals who give their time for free.

Last Wednesday, the Deputy Mayor, Cllr Neil Furey, handed out certificates to members of the CVS (Council for Voluntary Services), recognising 100 hours and 200 hours of service across the year. I, unfortunately, could not be there as I was presenting certificates to volunteers in the Ormskirk District Scouts, ranging from 10-year service awards to 40-year service awards.

It was a very busy week this week and I can’t possibly tell you about all the events that I attended.

However, I did attend a football tournament for girls in Blaugate, Skelmersdale. Over 100 teams had entered, including teams from Northern Ireland and Scotland.

I also officially opened the Tarleton Beer Festival and learnt to pour a pint!

Over the weekend there were numerous events to celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday celebrations. I attended a delightful evening at Ormskirk Parish Church, where the Occasional Singers performed as well as tea party for the children of St Joseph’s RC school, in Wrightington.

On Sunday morning, the Lancashire County Eucharist service was held at Blackburn Cathedral which was attended by many mayors from around Lancashire – and the Lord Lieutenant and his deputies, as well as military, police and fire and judicial representatives.

In the afternoon I finished the day with a tea party to celebrate the Queen’s birthday at Springfield Court.
