Bands back dementia fundraiser
LOCAL bands are among those backing a fundraising event for Dementia Friends and the Alzheimer’s Society.
The event on Saturday, July 2 at 7.30pm will be an evening of live music as well as a raffle.
Organiser Holly White said: “I am organising the event in memory of my nanna, who suffered with dementia.
“Having helped my nanna, I now understand how cruel dementia is and the impact it has, not only on the person, but also their families. It’s heartbreaking and very confusing to see the person you know going through it.
“I’m now a Dementia Friend and have learnt a lot about the disease and how to support families and people with it. I just wish we had known Dementia Friends when we were trying to help my nanna.
“I wanted to organise the event to raise awareness of the disease and raise much-needed funds for the charity to train more people to be Dementia Friends. Now seemed a good time to organise the event following the recent Dementia Awareness week and the Cupcake Day on June 16.”
She added: “The E Rooms in Skelmersdale have kindly given us the use of their sound system and venue and six local bands have agreed to perform free of charge.
“There is a fully licensed bar and local businesses have kindly donated some great prizes to be raffled on the night.”
Tickets are £3 and can be ordered from the E Rooms on 01695 731 016 or message E Rooms on Facebook
