IT’S with sadness that I write to say that West Lancashire lost one of its aldermen last week, ex Cllr Geoff Roberts. Geoff served as a councillor at both borough and county level. He was a superb speaker and was known for being a true gentleman. My condolences go to his family and especially his wife Jane.
Last week saw the opening of a new business in Ormskirk, called Pangea Sculptures.
Many of you will have driven along County Road and seen the amazing sculptures which have appeared on both sides of the road. The animals are sculpted in Kenya, from scrap metal.
The owner, Ian Unsworth, first came across the sculptures while visiting family in Kenya, where he was surprised to find people making African animals for tourists from scrap metal.
Pangea is a family-based company who are helping to improve working and living conditions for those who work for them. The animals are very impressive and well worth seeing if you take a trip to County Road.
At the weekend, an Armed Forces Fun event was held at Blaugate in Skelmersdale. There was a funfair, lots of stalls and military vehicles. I was invited to sit inside one of the vehicles.
Unfortunately, I couldn’t stay all day but reports from people that attended over the weekend confirm that it was a great family day out.
I’ve noticed that a lot of the events I’m invited to as Mayor are events that take place each year and are often in Ormskirk or Skelmersdale.
