We’ll turn gym dream into reality

PLANS for a new gym to be built on an industrial estate in Burscough have been submitted to West Lancashire Borough Council.

The premises at 4, Osprey Place, on the Guys industrial estate, was formerly home to a fork lift company, but the applicant believes a gym is now a more suitable use.

The site has been vacant since March and was not designed and built with a view to future alternative uses, or for sub-division into smaller units.

The building has no natural lighting on the ground floor or adequate energy-efficient heating and ventilation and the applicant believes it would probably struggle to meet modern-day building regulations at a viable cost and would be unsuited for most office purposes.

Despite being marketed for several months, there has been no interest in the site for employment use, but applicants believe it is “ideally located and designed to accommodate high-quality gym.”

The applicant is Alasdair Mitchell, who, together with his brother, Cameron, operate as Vault Fitness UK Ltd.

They are a young and enthusiastic company looking to create a stateof-the-art fitness gym for which they have identified a need in the Burscough area.

In the supporting statement submitted with the application, they said: “The proposed gym will enhance the attractiveness of the Burscough a Industrial Estate for existing businesses and potential businesses as the gym will serve the estate and has received interest from current businesses.

“We are two young aspiring businessmen with great ideas and the financial backing in place to make this gym a reality, providing us with a great potential business which may lead to more investment in the West Lancashire area.

“We feel we can offer a premium quality gymnasium at a competitive price in an up-and-coming Burscough area, with the ability to support 1,000+ members, contributing to the improvement of the overall health of West Lancashire.

“Upon the Industrial Estate here at Burscough, there is a great potential for business people and their staff to use the gympremises as it is on the Industrial estate, too. Early mornings, lunchhours and late-night use would be available.

“The gym will have the potential capacity to employ 10 members of staff or more, opening hours of 16 hours per day in the week and 8 hours on both Saturday and Sunday, necessitating employment of two receptionists in the week and one at weekends, one cleaner, two full-time personal trainers, and Cameron and Alasdair Mitchell (managers and personal trainers).

“Additionally, the spaces will be hired for classes by freelance instructors; therefore, indirect employment will be created. Depending on demand, the number of personal trainers could be much greater.”
