I’ve never played in a game quite like it says

A victory for Fleetwood Hesketh CC on Saturday puts them back in good form as they sit second in the table.

Hesketh captain Derek Sykes said it was a game like no other as Burscough and his side battled for the win.

The result could’ve gone either way as both sides looked to be on top throughout moments in the game but it was Hesketh who eventually secured the victory.

“I don’t think I’ve ever played in a game like that,” said Sykes.

“It was a roller coaster from start to finish. The game was going backwards and forwards all the time but it was a narrow victory for us in the end.

“We had a good start. At one point we had bowled them at 60-5, so we were well on top. Then they had some decent partnerships and eventually finished on 186 all out.

“Our bowler, Issy Perera got 9 wickets for 44 runs in just 25 overs which was magnificent. I ruined his day by getting the final wicket but I’m sure he’ll forgive me!” he added.

Despite some great performances in the field, Burscough were able to build a good score and Hesketh had to work hard to get back into the game.

It wasn’t easy though and it took a few more individual heroics for Hesketh to take victory.

“We had a poor start with the bat,” said Sykes.

“We thought it was game over then but we had a great partnership between Perera and Lee Rimmer who put on 124 together.

“Lee was very destructive and in the end, it was an impressive innings. Danny Murphy did well getting 17 and Tommy Waering and Lloyd Drummond played important roles to stay in until the finish without getting out.”

Sykes had a lot of praise for individuals but he said
