Excitement for Lawson
SKELMERSDALE United manager Tommy Lawson is full of excitement and says he can’t wait for the league to kick-off.
Skem have had a positive pre-season campaign and ended the summer with a 1-0 victory over Bala Town in their final friendly.
The first game of Skem’s Evo-Stik Northern Premier campaign kicks-off this Saturday against Grantham Town and Lawson admitted it was a ‘smashing’ time of the year.
“I’m really excited. The teams are all eager and fresh and there are great levels of expectations from the fans. It’s a smashing time of the year.
“We’re looking forward to the start of the season and we know what’s expected of us. The lads have worked so hard over pre-season campaign and I’ve been pleased with the commitment shown so can’t wait to get started.
“We capped it off with a win against Bala this Saturday. They were playing in Europe a few weeks ago so it was a great victory and we could’ve won by more to be honest. I thought it was a pleasing performance and the victory takes us into the league with a smile.”
Lawson admitted it’s always tough to find a starting eleven but he believes Skem are in a good position.
“We’re getting closer to our starting XI now, especially after the game against Bala so hopefully we’ll be looking to start the season well.
“We’ve got a couple of new boys who did well during pre-season so we’re happy with the way the squad’s come together.
“It’s a mixture of youth and experience and that’s what we want to show this year. We’ve got lads who know the league and then lads who are experiencing it for the first time and they bring enthusiasm and drive. I’m excited to see what we can make of it this year.”
