All for Alfie

ACHARITY has completely transformed a Burscough family’s garden to make it suitable for their son’s complex needs.

When the George Cox Foundation heard about Alfie Lund and the hard work his family puts into raising awareness for MECP2, a rare genetic condition that Alfie suffers from, they wanted to do something to help.

The family had already adapted their home for Alfie’s needs, but their garden had remained untouched and was completely overgrown.

The foundation set about to make this into a relaxed open space that the family could enjoy.

In just one week the team, made up of Steve Abbott, Darren Edgerton, Steve Atkinson, Phil Edgerton, Nigel Mass, Chris Edgerton, John Edgerton, Josh Pearson, Mike Hughes and Beverley Bennett, completed the transformation.

A paved patio has been installed at the bottom of the access ramp, allowing Alfie easy access to the garden in his wheelchair. The whole garden has been levelled and new turf has been laid and to finish it off a patio set and selection of plants now decorate the area.

None of this would have been possible without the generosity of Marshalls, which donated the flags, and Hultons Landscapes, which donated the turf and plants.

Parents Mark and Rachel Lund said: “The garden is amazing and we cannot thank you enough for all you have done.

“What a nice bunch of lads that do this job and the guy who came with all the plants was the icing on the cake.

“Alfie is itching to get on the grass”.
