Steve takes the high road – again

-

AUGHTON builder Steve Hodge is set to attempt a record first by cycling from the west coast of Scotland to the east in a day.

The challenge covers some pretty tough terrain, including the steepest and largest climbs in Great Britain.

Steve will begin his journey from the furthest westerly point of the Isle of Skye, Neist Point, on the morning of Sunday, September 18.

He aims to arrive at the Kilmarnock Arms hotel in Peterhead, the furthest easterly point, for a wellearned night’s rest that evening.

Once Steve has accomplished this feat he will have scored a hat trick, having already completed both the English and Welsh coast-to-coast rides, no doubt this Scottish event will no as popular as the others, thanks to Steve’s effort.

Last year, he rode the Lands’ End to John O’ Groats and back challenge and once again plans on donating all of his fundraising to Headway Sefton after one of his cycling chums suffered a brain injury in a fall from his bike in 2012.

As well as donating cash directly to the charity, the branch manager of A Plan Insurers, Philippa Ross, also helps to support Headway Sefton by providing Steve Hodge with his cycling kit and equipment to ease the cost of his cycling challenges.

Headway Sefton, the local branch of Headway UK, offers emotional and practical support to the survivors of head injury and their families and all donations go to creating interesting, informative monthly drop-ins at Waterloo rugby club (every second Wednesday 1-3pm) along with organised activities and days out.

The next Headway Sefton meeting is Wednesday 14th September. There will be a day out in New Brighton, the coach will pick people up at the rugby club at 10am and return at about 4pm.
