Celebrate UK’s Silver Sunday

-

WEST Lancashire Borough Council is celebrating Silver Sunday by organising a free event where elderly people can find out more about services available to them.

Silver Sunday is a national celebration of elderly people and their contribution to communities. It offers them a chance to keep active in body and spirit, try new things, meet their neighbours and, ultimately, overcome loneliness.

To coincide with this UK-wide scheme West Lancs Borough Council is hosting an event on Monday, October 3, between 10am and 4pm at the Concourse Shopping Centre in Skelmersdale.

Councillor Terry Aldridge, West Lancashire Borough Council cabinet member with the portfolio for older people, said: “The event is designed to showcase the services available in West Lancashire to help and support older people to live happier and healthier lives.

“So if you are an older person, or have family members who are older people, then come along as you are sure to learn some very useful information.”

There will be a range of stalls at the event from organisations including West Lancashire Borough Council’s Home Care Link teams and Age UK Lancashire.

Rally Round will also be at the Concourse to tell people about their scheme which aims to help families, friends, neighbours and volunteers give more support to a frail or vulnerable person.

And Power of Music will be there to provide information about how to use music to help people with dementia.
