- BY BEN WARD sport@trinitymirror.com @OSAdvertiser

MAWDESLEY Cricket Club’s first ever visually impaired cricket season came to a close on Sunday with the final game of the year being a nail-biting encounter against Cheshire Cobra.

The game was played in glorious sunshine at Rectory Field with the home team winning the toss and electing to bat first.

The Mawdesley Team, made up of the Club’s VI coaches and players from Galloway’s Society for the Blind, made 149 runs from their 30 overs.

They then backed that up by bowling superbly well to put pressure on a classy Cheshire Cobras side who were never able to get ahead of the run rate.

as the game headed into the final over, Cheshire Cobras won a great contest on the penultimate ball of the game.

The game was played in great spirit and congratulations are due to all who took part in demonstrating that visual impairment is no barrier to fully enjoying the sport.

The Club are keen to encourage more visually impaired and disabled players to get involved for the 2017 season and plan to run some indoor coaching sessions over the autumn and winter months.
