Let’s build on feelgood factor

SKELMERSDALE recorded their first league victory against Corby Town last Saturday and Tommy Lawson hopes his side can move forward now.

They’ve had a week off to prepare for their next fixture against Sutton Coldfields after Tuesday’s cup clash against Nantwich Town was postponed.

Lawson described the victory as an ‘important one’ and said the victory gave his side confidence which he hopes they can demonstrate this weekend.

“It was an important win to give the lads some belief and although the results we’ve had have been good, it was good to get the win,” said Lawson.

“I thought we carried on doing what we’ve been doing well and it finally paid off. We got the win and it was a close game but they all are at the moment.

“We got ourselves in front and managed to stay there and that was really important. The feeling was good afterwards.”

On Saturday, Skem travel to Sutton Coldfields and their Astroturf pitch.

Lawson admitted this will prove to be a challenge but he’s confident his team will have enough to produce another strong performance.

“We’ve got to play on their turf and it’s not the best.

“It’s another away game too and we seem to be having a lot at the moment.

“We’ll obviously be looking for a victory.

“Our place is bubbly at the moment and the feeling’s good.

“We’ve got some great youth in the squad and Skelmersdale is proving to be a place where ambitious kids look to come to and that’s great.

“Tony Donaldson has just been given a professional contract with Doncaster Rovers and he was with us last year.

“That news has certainly been positive this week and we wish him all the best.

“It shows what we’re doing here is right”.

Skem entertain Workington next Tuesday.
