HEATONS Bridge Military Vehicle Group is to host its second military weekend of 2016 at Heatons Bridge Inn.
There will be a vast array of military vehicles on show from all eras this Saturday and Sunday, October 8-9.
These events have now become halfyearly gatherings at the inn, courtesy of proprietors Steve and Jacqui Winrow.
The inn has a great range of real ales and as well as a military-themed menu available for the entire weekend.
Paul Connolly from the group said: “The vehicles which attend include Willys, Ford, Hotchkiss and Austin Champ Jeeps, Landrovers, ‘Whistling Rio’ and Bedford RL 4 ton trucks, a Saracen armoured personnel carrier, military motorbikes, and military staff cars.
“A regular part of the display is also a 25-pounder field gun rig belonging to Frank and Angela Brown, comprising a Morris Quad tractor unit which tows an ammunition limber behind, and the field gun itself behind that.
“The inn itself is located on the canal at Heatons Bridge and the grounds still retain the WWII freestanding brick pillbox which formed part of the homeguard defence provisions and will, hopefully, have a small home guard display in it again.”
Group secretary Angela Brown said: “We were so lucky with April’s event. The turnout exceeded all of our expectations and we’re hoping to have a repeat of that this year.”
“Much of this event will replicate the event in April but we are encouraging people to come down and get involved. We are here to be asked questions, whether they are about military vehicles or general questions about the war.”
There is no admission charge and the public are encouraged to attend. WEST Lancashire Light Railway is staging its annual Hallowe’en spectacular on Sunday, October 30, from 11.30am-4.30pm.
The railway is situated on Station Road, Hesketh Bank.
Families can enjoy special trains after dark. Come in fancy dress!
