Rose, 18, takes leap of faith for charity
ASOUTHPORT teenager has completed a 15,000ft skydive for a children’s charity. Miss Lancashire finalist Rose Marshall completed the daredevil stunt in August to raise money for Variety, a charity which helps sick, disabled and disadvantaged children.
Former Greenbank High student Rose raised more than £200 by completing the dive, which was done from the highest altitude allowed.
“I was pretty terrified,” admits Rose. “I was there for the whole day and I was terrified the whole time. I was originally only supposed to do 11,000ft but on the day they asked if I wanted to do 15,000ft so I thought, ‘Why not?’”
Rose said that her main memory from the dive is of the cold air in her face and says it was an incredible experience.
She said: “It’s amazing, it’s so powerful. It’s like a blast of cold air in your face and it’s absolutely breathtaking.”
18-year-old Rose works as a beautician at Formby Hall and also spends a lot of time with the Southport Dance Academy, having started dancing aged just four-years-old.
She entered the Miss Southport contest earlier this year, her first experience of such a competition, and is enjoying her experience in the Miss Lancashire event. The competition is described as “more than a beauty pageant or modelling competition”, with the organisers looking for an ambassador for the area.
Rose said: “I really enjoyed doing Miss Southport. It was great to meet new friends and getting new experiences.
“It also makes me get more involved in the community and I really like that.”
Rose’s other charity work in the competition includes donating toys to Ormskirk Hospital and she is planning to host a beauty evening to raise more money for Variety.
The Miss Lancashire Final will be held on Sunday, October 10 and the winner’s name will then be entered into the Miss England competition final.
