The unexplained stories that haunt our local area

-

WHEN it comes to ghostly sightings, Southport and the local area definitely has its fair share.

Lancashire has even been considered the third most haunted area in the UK.

One particular area of interest on our doorstep is Halsall Moss.

The atmospheric country roads of Halsall Moss have produced an abundance of reports of paranormal encounters.

It’s these experiences, ranging from 1965 right up until the present day, that have been the focus of Dr Rob Gandy’s research.

As well as a visiting professor at John Moores University and formerly an NHS manager both in Southport and Liverpool, Dr Gandy has long had an interest in ghostly phenomena.

Researching folkore and legends in the North West, and focusing on first-hand accounts, his work has often been published in specialist magazine the Fortean Times.

On Tuesday, November 8, we’ll be holding on to the spirit of Hallowe’en with the Old Man of Halsall Moss, where Dr Gandy will present his research and talk about his hauntingly interesting findings.

You can join us for this unique chance to explore stories of the phantom hitchhikers and ghosts on local roads. Tickets are £5 in advance or £6 on the door, with all the proceeds being donated to Queenscourt Hospice.

The event will be held at Southport & Birkdale Sports Club from 7.30pm. Although there are no refreshments in the ticket price, there will be a bar to bolster your courage and the restaurant will be open before the event, offering two courses for only £10.

So are the eerie roads of Halsall Moss really haunted? Will you be wary of an unexpected passenger or will you retain a natural scepticism for the supernatural?

Book your tickets online at www.queenscourt.org.uk or call us on 01704 517420.
