High is quickly followed by low

- BY EMMA SANDERS

TOMMY Lawson wasn’t his usual bright self, following Skelmersdale’s 7-0 defeat against Spennymoor Town on Tuesday evening.

The manager admitted his side were always going to be in for a rough day as work commitments and injuries meant Skem were travelling to Spennymoor with a weakened side.

Skelmersdale were the latest victims of being a side brimming with confidence and quality as Spennymoor continued their domination on the league.

“It was very disappointing. We didn’t have a full team and we had some big players missing,” said Lawson.

“We had a few injuries and we had a weaker squad so having to go there on a Tuesday night was very difficult.

“We had a big chunk of the squad not available. They’re a top, top side and you’ve got to be as good as you can be and unfortunately we were compromised.

“Some people have to travel to get here. Some people have to get a day off work. It’s always very difficult and it was just one of those situations that you have to deal with in non-league football.

“We will get our players back for Saturday. That’s important and we need people available but it’s not always possible because they’ve got jobs that they can’t always get away from.

“There were performances that could’ve been a lot better from us and football is strange like that because we were so high after Saturday’s performance.

“We got a great result on the weekend but didn’t carry that performance through”.

On Saturday Skelmersdale face Ikeston in their next league clash and Lawson is hoping to have a much larger squad available despite injury to Alex Davies on Tuesday.
