AN ELDERLY woman confronted a burglar in her Ormskirk home.

The burglary took place between 3pm and 4pm on Friday, October 28 when a teenager entered the semi-detached home in County Road belonging to the 84-year-old woman.

He entered the home through the front door and made his way upstairs, where he searched bedrooms before making his way back downstairs to the kitchen.

At that point, the alarmed owner entered the room and confronted him.

The burglar fled and headed down the road towards the traffic lights.

Despite his thorough search of the house nothing of substantial value was stolen, but he did take three packets of Windsor Blue cigarettes that he found in the kitchen, which have a value of around £30.

A spokesperson for Lancashire police said: “The victim was obviously shocked by the ordeal and it has caused some distress that someone could just walk into her home in that manner.

“We ask that people keep an eye on elderly or vulnerable neighbours.”

The culprit is described as being white and around 15 or 16 years old. He had short, blond hair and was wearing a light grey zipped-up top and light grey tracksuit bottoms.
