With Cllr Liz Savage

-

IT’S with sadness that I report the death of another former chairman of the council, Eric Kells.

Eric’s funeral will be held this Friday at Emmanuel Church, Ormskirk.

Meanwhile, Thursday was the culmination of the work that the charity committee had done for the Mad Hatters Tea Party.

All primary schools in West Lancashire were asked to design a mad hat and each school was to choose infant and junior winners.

The winners were then invited to have a Mad Hatters Tea Party in the council offices with me.

The efforts of the children who did get involved astounded us.

We saw some amazing creations and the children seemed to have a great time.

Many thanks to Ormskirk School which lent us some of the props from its recent production or Alice In Wonderland to make the setting magnificent for the children who took part.

On Monday evening there was a special event in Coronation Park to mark Hallowe’en.

I was asked to open the event and judge both the fancy dress and the pumpkin competitions.

The park rangers had obviously put a great deal of effort into their Hallowe’en walk through the woods and while many people did have a scare, I think it’s fair to say that people enjoyed themselves.

Special thanks to Ann the park ranger for taking care of me at the event.

On Friday night, there will be a nostalgic Civic Disco at The Civic.

Back in the 1980s, The Civic Hall, held under-18s discos which were very well attended.

I’m told by Liz from the Civic that they often get requests to do these again.

This Friday’s event commemorates these discos and is for over 18s only.

We’ve been lucky enough to have a guest appearance of Paul Rainbird, who was the DJ for these events in the 1980s.

Tickets cost £5 and you can pay on the door.

The side door will be used just as it was back in the 1980s.

November 4 – 1980s Civic Disco - tickets £5 from The Civic, Southport Road, Ormskirk.

December 1 – Bingo at The Civic Hall, details to be confirmed

If you can help in any way with donations of prizes for the bingo please contact Jill Ryan on 01695 585033.
