Loyalty can only go so far for Tom
AFTER Skelmersdale United’s fifth loss in a row, manager Tommy Lawson has admitted the club are now in search of new players.
Saturday’s result did not go Skem’s way and they only won once throughout October - losing six games in the process.
Skelmersdale lost 3-1 in the FA Trophy against Kendal Town on Saturday but it is their poor run of form in the league that Lawson says has made the club decide it is in need of a change of direction.
“We’ve just got to keep battling away and hope to turn the tide but we’re now definitely looking at bringing some fresh players in,” said Lawson.
“We’ve been very loyal to the players that we already have here but it’s time to start to look at our options. It’s not happening.
“You can say we’ve been unfortunate at times but we’ve got to start bringing in better players wherever possible. We’re actively looking now.
“We want to bring a few in before Saturday but it’s very difficult. We’ll identify one or two players that we feel can help the club. That’s what we’ll do to freshen up the squad.
“We’re also going to be more ruthless with the lads we’ve got. The club has been very loyal so far but now is the time to change that.
“On Saturday it was another game where we dominated possession but we got hit on the counter-attack. It was disappointing. We’re not scoring the goals I feel our play deserves.
“At times it’s naivety from the young players we’ve got. We made a few bad individual mistakes and the errors proved costly”.
Skelmersdale travel to face Rushall Olmypic this weekend and though the main focus will be on recruitment for the club, Lawson is fully focused.
