Stadium plans withdrawn at last minute

-

THE application for a new Burscough FC stadium was withdrawn on the day the boorough council was expected to approve the plans.

A decision was due to be made on the fate of the club’s renovation at West Lancashire Borough Council’s planning meeting last Thursday, November 11, but the application was withdrawn over the concern for wildlife on the grass area that the club were interested in building on after further information was put forward by a tenant farmer.

It indicated that there may be some issues during the building of the stadium as the pink footed goose can often be found residing near the stadium during winter months.

The pink-footed goose is pinkish grey with a dark head and neck, a pink bill and pink feet and legs.

The species does not breed in the UK, but large numbers spend the winter here, arriving from their breeding grounds in Spitsbergen, Iceland and Greenland.

The additional information added to the planning agenda said that further investigation would be needed into the effects that the new stadium would have on the town’s wildlife before plans could be approved.

Objections had been raised previously by neighbours, the parish council and United Utilities because of fears that building on the site could lead to increased flooding in the village.

Many residents have expressed fears over safe access to and from the stadium because of its close proximity to roads as well as the impact on wildlife on and around the land.

Burscough FC have been approached for comment on the withdrawal of the application but were unable to comment before the publication deadline.
